1 9 6 5 – 1 9 6 6 (USA)
165 x 30 minute episodes
This daytime soap from NBC was set in Paradise Bay – a small picturesque SoCal coastal town along the Pacific between Los Angeles and the Mexican border – and broadcast daily in colour from 27 September 1965.
Stories related the impact of new world standards as experienced by the Morgan family: Jeff (Keith Andes), the manager of KVPP, a small community radio station; his wife, Mary (future Happy Days star Marion Ross); and their teenage daughter, Kitty (Heather North), and son, Fred (Stephen Mines).
Jeff’s assistant at the station was Sandy Sanford (David Whorf). Other regular characters included Jeff’s not-so-friendly rival, Walter Montgomery (Walter Brooke), the wealthy publisher of the Paradise Bay Journal; police chief Tom White (Crahan Denton); and beauty shop owner Charlotte Baxter (Paulle Clark).
The series began with the body of Charlotte’s teenage daughter Sally Baxter being washed ashore and a subsequent murder investigation when a post mortem revealed she had a head wound.
Sally’s death deeply affected the Morgan family as she had been Kitty’s “big sister” at Paradise Bay High School and the steady girlfriend of Fred’s closest pal, Duke Spalding (Dennis Cole).
