This NBC comedy featured Spencer Winger (Chad Lowe), a slightly off-beat, girl-crazy 16-year-old boy who excels in finding trouble. He lives with his mother, Doris (Mimi Kennedy), father, George (Ronny Cox), and sister, Andrea (Amy Locane), at 1901 Sunshine Place (city not identified).

After six episodes, the format was revised (and was retitled Under One Roof) when George ran off with his 23-year-old bookkeeper and left Doris, Spencer (now played by Ross Harris) and Andrea to fend for themselves.

To fill the void left by George, Doris’s parents, Ben (Harold Gould) and Millie (Frances Sternhagen), moved in to help raise the family.

While both formats followed Spencer’s antics at school and home, the revised six episodes also focused on the problems of three generations living under one roof.

Other Regulars included Spencer’s friends Wayne Westin (Grant Heslov) and Herbie Bailey (Dean Cameron) and his guidance counsellor at McKinley High School, Benjamin Beanly (Richard Sanders).
