After endlessly pestering a domestic employment agency for work, fearsome Ida Willis (sitcom legend Mollie Sugden) is finally installed in the position of housekeeper to young Dr Robert Price (Christopher Blake) and his model wife, Angie (Jennifer Lonsdale) in their London flat.
Gradually realising that the handsome young doctor is the son she gave up for adoption at birth, Ida becomes increasingly possessive of him, much to the despair of his adoptive mother (Clare Richards). Robert is left to dither between the two.
The family (and Ida) later move out of London to Yorkshire, where Ida gains a friend in Miss Parfitt (Deddie Davies) and also has her brother, Wilfred (Harold Goodwin) to keep her occupied.
Devised and scripted by You’re Only Young Twice creators Pam Valentine and Michael Ashton, That’s My Boy was an enduring success for Yorkshire Television, running for five series and two Christmas specials.
That’s My Boy also appeared as a comic strip in Look-In magazine in 1986.
