‘Jack’s Place’ is a Los Angeles bar, cabaret and restaurant famous for its chocolate fudge cake, where customers are not obligated to pay for a meal if they do not like it.
Jack Evans (Hal Linden of Barney Miller fame) is the charming proprietor, who had been a jazz musician and bandleader during the 1960s.
Chelsea Duffy (soap superstar Finola Hughes) is the tough-talking British cocktail waitress with an encyclopaedic knowledge of baseball and Greg Toback (John Dye) is the bartender who is trying to finish his pre-med classes while taking care – as a single parent – of a 7-year-old son.
Stories relate incidents in the lives of the guests – employees, customers or musicians – who frequent Jack’s Place. Each hour-long episode has three storylines, which regularly include a boy-meets-girl romance.
Guests included Mickey Rooney, George Clooney, Cesar Romero, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Macnee, Sheena Easton, Long John Baldry, Scott Baio, Eileen Brennan, Robert Guillaume, Billy Barty and David Ogden Stiers.
