1 9 9 1 – 1 9 9 2 (USA)
13 x 30 minute episodes
Veteran police detective Bob Ballard (Robert Guillaume) is reassigned to Pacific Station in Venice, California – something of an exile for the police force’s most oddball or outright incompetent officers.
As well as dealing with the eccentric beach community of Venice Beach, Bob also has to deal with his new superior officer, the recently promoted Captain Ken Epstein (Joel Murray), an immature and inept young man with a master’s in journalism, a minor in criminology and big-time connections at City Hall.
Epstein tries to mask his inexperience by loudly barking orders about SWAT teams and suchlike into the telephone.
Adding to Bob’s frustration is his new partner, Richard Capparelli (Richard Libertini), who wears sandals, jeans and a messy beard, and confesses he’s just returned from psychiatric leave.
The series premiered in December 1991, but NBC quickly pulled the show from its Sunday night lineup and put it into the limbo land that TV execs call “hiatus”.
