The Delisles were a middle-class Montreal family who lived (as the title suggests) at 14 Rue de Galais.
Head of the household was Henri Delisle (Paul Hébert), a quiet civil engineer with a comfortable salary and high social status. His wife Jeanne (Mimi D’Estée) was extremely emotional – irascible and suspicious, she judged her family very harshly.
The eldest son, Louis (Robert Gadouas), was a university student who led an almost debauched life. Cunning and deceitful, he would go to any lengths – even blackmailing his father – to get the constant flow of money he desired.
In stark contrast, the younger son, Paul (Roland Longpré), was a serious college student considering entering the priesthood.
Their daughter, Hélène (Isabelle Richard), preferred Paul and was wary of Louis, while her mother favoured Louis and frequently made Paul her scapegoat.
Henri’s brother, Uncle Albert (Maurice Gauvin), also lived with the family and frequently provided a dose of common sense and humour to the family.
Written by André Giroux, this serial drama premiered on 23 February 1954 and was produced by Radio Canada.
Sadly, Robert Gadouas took his own life on 3 June 1969 in Montreal. He was just 41.
Mimi D’Estée died on 7 March 2004. aged 96. Paul Hébert died in Quebec on 20 April 2017. He was 92.
