This series of 50-minute farces by Brian Rix’s Whitehall Theatre Company aired at monthly intervals on the BBC during the winter of 1962/63.

The regular company included Rix’s real-life wife Elspet Gray, Peter Mercier, Leo Franklyn, Larry Noble, Patrick Cargill and Hazel Douglas. Guest stars in the eight episodes included John Le Mesurier, Joan Sims, Terry Scott, Joan Sanderson, Andrew Sachs, Gabrielle Daye, Arthur Brough and Carole Shelley.

Two further programmes in a similar vein followed: Laughter from Whitehall (1963-64) and Laughter from the Whitehall (1965).

Brian Rix was appointed to the House of Lords in 1992 and became Lord Rix. In August 2016, he announced that he was terminally ill, and he died on 20 August 2016 in London. He was 92.

Elspet Gray died in 2013 aged 83.
