Arnie Nuvo (Herschel Bernardi) has worked on the loading dock at Continental Flange Inc. (located at 36 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles) for years and is quite content in his blue-collar life.
His life is turned upside-down when he suddenly gets promoted to Director of the Product Improvements Department, to the chagrin of his boss, the stuffy company president Hamilton Majors, Jr. (Roger Bowen).
Unsure of how to deal with his new white-collar co-workers, and feeling isolated from his old friends, Arnie and his family – wife Lillian (Sue Ane Langdon) and teenage children Andrea (Stephanie Steele) and Richard (Del Russel) – must make some big adjustments as they struggle to get used to their new surroundings.
The Hamilton Majors character was written out of the show and replaced by Charles Nelson Reilly as Arnie’s neighbour Randy Robinson (host of television’s The Giddyap Gourmet), and CBS pulled the plug on the show in the second season.
Felicia Farfiss (Elaine Shore) is Arnie’s secretary, and Neil Ogilvie (Herb Voland) is the plant supervisor. Julius (Tom Pedi) is a friend of Arnie’s.
Arnie and his family live at 4650 Liberty Lane in Los Angeles.
