Getting Together was actually a spinoff of The Partridge Family – introduced in the episode titled “A Knight in Shining Armor” which aired on 19 March 1971.
Struggling singer Bobby Conway (Bobby Sherman) and nerdy, tone-deaf lyricist Lionel Poindexter (Wes Stern) try to eke out a living as pop music songwriters in the Los Angeles music scene.
The two live with Bobby’s 12-year-old sister Jennifer (Susan Neher) in an antique shop, and Bobby works on the side as a recording engineer until he and Lionel get their big break.
Rita (Pat Carroll) is their friendly landlady, and Rudy (Jack Burns) her cop boyfriend.
During the show’s run, Bobby released a Getting Together album on the Metromedia record label.
Getting Together was thoroughly crushed by the competition provided by All in the Family on CBS and the series was canned, with Wes Stern reappearing in lots of TV commercials for McDonald’s and suchlike.
Bernard Slade’s Thornhill Productions later produced another single-season sitcom, The Girl With Something Extra.
