Sam was a specially-trained Golden Labrador retriever assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department in this short-lived half-hour CBS crime show from Jack Webb’s Mark VII Ltd.
Mark Harmon was Sam’s human handler and “partner”, Officer Mike Breen.
The duo patrolled the streets of Los Angeles in a police car designated “Two-Henry-Six” and made much use of Sam’s speed, manoeuvrability and keen senses of smell and hearing in their pursuit of criminals.
Despite their record of performance, Mike’s boss, Captain Tom Clagett (Len Wayland), had his doubts about Sam’s abilities as a crime fighter and the K9 program.
The pilot for the series aired on 24 May 1977. The series aired in March and April 1978.
Playing the part of Sam was a four-year-old golden Lab named Bart.
