This five-part hour-long medical drama from ABC featured Dr Thomas Abbott Ryan (Tom Skerritt), a physician supervising four interns.
Ryan agreed to leave his lucrative private practice and become Director of Interns at Wilshire Memorial Hospital after the suicide of his son, who had been an intern there. Pugnacious, arrogant and hostile to the hospital administrators and his fellow doctors, Ryan was belligerent to the point of being physically threatening.
The interns were former cop Dr Terry Wilson (Albert Hall), feeble-brained Dr Edward Gillian (Timothy Daly), Dr Norman Rostov (Dirk Blocker), and Dr Ingrid Sorenson (Lisa Eilbacher).
Also appearing regularly was Dr Morris Whitford (Nicholas Coster), the pedantic hospital director.
David Victor created the series and served as executive producer with Henry Winkler (The Fonz of Happy Days fame).
