An inferior sequel to Battlestar Galactica in which the Battlestar fleet finally return home to Earth (albeit still hotly pursued by the evil robotic race called the Cylons).
Captain Troy (Kent McCord) and Lt. Dillon (Barry Van Dyke) were the new generation of Galactican pilots sent down to perform reconnaissance of Earth’s 20th-century civilisation.
Lorne Greene (now wearing a beard) and Herb Jefferson Jr (also wearing a beard) returned from the original series but Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch turned it down.
Despite having big ratings for its premiere the show soon collapsed, especially with its 7 pm edicts of emphasising the Galactica children, who had super powers and did mundane things like play baseball. The campy plots were a crushing disappointment to loyal Battlestar Galactica fans.
A bright spot was the last episode, ‘The Return of Starbuck’, a well-written and excellently acted story with Dirk Benedict returning as Starbuck, stranded on a desolate planet where he builds a benevolent Cylon for company.
