This six-part BBC comedy/thriller featured Jewish private detective Bernie Weinstock (Dick Emery) and his Cockney partner Norman Lugg (Tony Selby) in a search for a hoard of diamonds that were hidden in Holland during the Second World War.
Acting on information received from the leader of his Gamblers Anonymous group, Helen Carter (Helen Gill), he embarked on a search for the large quantity of diamonds that Helen’s late father had hidden during the war.
Emery first introduced the character of Bernie Weinstock in 1982 in the six-part BBC comedy thriller Legacy of Murder.
Dick Emery also played many of the supporting roles including the crusty Colonel Edgerton, gangster Cyril Blackman, haughty Lady Holtye, pompous Detective Inspector Dearlove, the villainous General Von Klaus and an Amsterdam tart called Greta.
This was his last television series. He passed away in January 1983 and the series was aired posthumously.
