Set in the late 1950s and early 1960s, My Father’s House revolved around 17-year-old Anna Blake (newcomer Judy Holt) who is tempted out of her sheltered life by her desire to understand more about her estranged father (Terrence Hardiman) who abandoned the family when Anna was a young girl.
He is now living with his new partner in Hampstead and Anna finds the courage to visit him. She is seduced by the sophistication of his lifestyle with a woman more glamorous than her mother (Helen Ryan).
With new-found confidence, she visits her older brother Maurice (Steven Mann) at his university digs on the Royal Crescent in Bath.
Here she meets and falls in love with her brother’s attractive but promiscuous flatmate, Jake Staveley (Simon Shepherd).
Debuting on 6 March 1981 this Granada miniseries – based on a book by Kathleen Conlon – ran over five weeks for a total of 7 hours.
