The series follows a group of futuristic teenage freedom fighters – the Eagle Riders – who are based beneath the sea and take to the stratosphere in winged spaceships to battle an array of evil aliens that are threatening to destroy the Earth.
Their spaceships can attach to each other, forming a powerful super-ship.
The series was an English language dub of episodes of the Japanese anime shows Gatchaman II and Gatchaman Fighters. Despite 65 English language episodes being produced, the series was cancelled in the US after just 13 episodes due to poor ratings. In the UK, only 47 episodes were aired.
