Jackie (Latina comedienne Jackie Guerra) was the receptionist at the trendy Tudor Hair Salon in LA and shared an apartment with her two friends, Dominique (Leah Remini) and Susan (Mia Cottet).
Recently graduated from Yale, Jackie attended law school at night and longed for the day when she could make a difference in the world – and find a man.
Cynical Dominique was a production assistant at Ventura Records, and neurotic, analytical Susan was about to get her license as a psychotherapist.
Jackie’s good friend Rosa (Tracy Vilar) and obnoxious, womanising English hairstylist Freddy (Harry Van Gorkum) worked at the salon.
Madeline (Roxanne Beckford) was the yuppie executive who lived across the hall, and Nathan Fisk (Craig Anton) was Jackie’s klutzy, sex-obsessed childhood friend who worked at the LA Review. He had a million ideas but could not stay focused long enough to finish anything.
Comedienne Guerra was quoted in the press complaining about the stereotypical nature of her character, but since First Time Out only lasted 13 episodes, she had little time to do much about it.
