Aired as part of Walt Disney Presents, Tom Tryon starred in the title role as real-life Texas Ranger and cattle king John Horton Slaughter.
Slaughter wore an enormous white stetson with the brim pinned up in the front and used his six guns to establish law and order in the young United States.
Harry Carey Jr. played Horton’s Ranger buddy Ben Jenkins, and Norma Moore was Slaughter’s fiancee, Adele Harris.
Coincidentally, when the real John Slaughter’s widow, Cora, died in 1941, amongst her personal effects were 100 shares of Walt Disney Productions stock.
“With stetson so white and a pearl-handed gun swinging on his side
Texas John Slaughter made ’em do what they oughta
’cause if they didn’t, they died”
