Conceived as “Radio 1 in vision” and replacing Juke Box Jury on Friday nights, All Systems Freeman found DJ Alan “Fluff” Freeman playing new releases on a set of turntables while interviewing acts like The Beach Boys and Cat Stevens in oversized headphones and addressing his faithful “pop pickers”.
Other guests included Adam Faith, The Hollies, Procol Harum, Herman’s Hermits, Long John Baldry, Amen Corner, The Move, The Troggs, Sandie Shaw, PP Arnold, Traffic, Gene Pitney, The Foundations, The Scaffold, The Cowsills, The Herd, The Tremeloes, Marty Wilde and Lulu.
When it was cancelled after just one series, Freeman was furious. “That show was a knockout,” he fumed to Deejay magazine. “They really should never have taken it off.”
Meanwhile, BBC Head of Variety, Bill Cotton Jnr. said, “We think it succeeded and had a fair run. Not every show has to go on indefinitely.”
The show was recorded in Manchester.
