29 x 30 minute episodes
This Sunday evening series for young people from Australia’s ABC starred popular Melbourne singer Judy Jacques and Idris Jones.
Debuting at 6.30 pm on 12 March 1967, the show was the successor to the previous year’s teenage pop show, Dig We Must, though aimed at a slightly older audience.
Producer Barry Langford said at the time, “In Start Living, we are out to prove that young Australian artists can present a show that will appeal to everyone. Judy can sing anything from rock to classical – I know because I’ve tried her on all of them”.
Other featured artists on the show included Denise Drysdale, Tony Barber, Bobby Bright and Idris Jones’ brother, Evan.
The series was initially called Wake Up and Start Living but the title was quickly shortened. The shows were filmed at the ABC’s Elsternwick studios in Melbourne.
The final episode aired on Sunday 24 September.
TRIVIA NOTE
